Mission Statement:

The mission of the Desert Ridge Math Department’s teachers is to provide an opportunity for all students to participate in a mathematics curriculum designed to maintain students’ curiosity, enjoyment, creativity, and problem solving, and investigate connections to our increasingly technological world.

Courses Offered:

MA200/201 MATH TOPICS 1/2
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12- 1 Year -1 Credit
Students will learn measurememt, geometry, data analysis, algebra patterns, and relations, and analytic reasoning with an emphasis on communications, problem solving, and application through use of technology. Meets MST requirement.

 

MA300/301 MATH TOPICS 3/4
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12- 1 Year -1 Credit
Prerequisite: Math Topics 1/2
Students will continue their investigation into the concepts introduced in Math Topics 1/2. This course wll emphasize critical thinking skills in math and the formulation of individuals and group problem-solving skills. Students will be introduced to matrices, vectors, proofs and three-dimensional graphs. Meets MST requirement.

 

MA305W/306W HONORS MATH TOPICS 3/4
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12- 1 Year -1 Credit-Weighted Grade
Prerequisite: Placement is based on a predetermined score on a district-approved test, completion of Math Topics 1/2, or teacher approval
Students will continue the study of the concepts introduced in Math Topics 1/2. Students will do an in-depth study of matrices, vectors, proofs and three-dimensional graphs. Meets MST requirement.

 

MA400/401 MATH TOPICS 5/6
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12- 1 Year - 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Math Topics 3/4
Students will study algebraic concepts. The topic will include an introductoin to sequence and series, exponents and logarithms, and trigonometry while further developing the analysis of data through the use of technology. Meets MST requirement.

 

MA405W/406W HONORS MATH TOPICS 5/6
Grade: 10, 11, 12- 1 Year -1 Credit-Weighted Grade
Students will be exposed to an extensive and in-depth study of algebraic concepts. The topics include sequence and series, exponents and logarithms, and trigonometry, while further developing the analysis of data through the use of technology.

 

MA410 PRE-CALCULUS
Grades:11,12- 1 semester- 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Math Topics 5/6
Students will prepare for success in calculus. Topics include algebra, analytic geometry, and trigonometry. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

MA423 BRIEF CALCULUS
Grade:12- 1 semester- 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus
Students will study ordinary differential equations with applications including LaPlace transformations with numerical methods.this course will support the state standards in Mathematics. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

MA424 FINITE MATH
Grade:12- 1 semester- 1/2 credit
Prequisite: Breif Calculus
This course is an introduction to the mathematics required for the study of social and behavioral sciences.Topics include sets, combinations, probability, matrix, algebra, linear programming and mathematics of finance. this course will support the State Standards in Mathematics. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

MA414W ANALYSIS WITH AP STATISTICS
Grades:11,12- 1 year- 1 credit-WeightedGrade
Prequisite: Math Topics 5/6
This course will consist of college algebra concepts that support statistics and the AP curriculum, culminating with the AP exam.Meets MST requirement.

 

MA415W HONORS PRE-CALCULUS
Grades:11,12- 1 year- 1 credit-Weighted Grade
Prequisite: Placement is based on predetermined score on a district-approved test, completion of Honors Math Topics 5/6 or teacher approval.
Students will prepare for success in calculus through an in-depth study of topics from algebra, trigonometry, and alalytic geometry.Meets MST requirement.

 

MA416 CALCULUS I
Grades:11,12-1 year-1 credit
Prequisite: Honors Pre-Calculus with teacher approval.
Students will study calculus with analytic geometry as it relates real numbers, limits, continuity, differential and integral calculus of functions in one variable with an emphasis on technology.Meets MST requirement.

 

MA417W AP/HONORS CALCULUS I-II
Grades:11,12-1 year-1 credit-Weighted Grade
Prequisite: Placement is based on predetermined score on a district-approved test, completion of Pre-Calculus or teacher approval.
Students will study calculus with analytic geometry as it realates real numbers, limits, continuity, differential and integral calculus of functions in one variable with an emphasis on technology. Topics also include methods of integration, applications of calculus, and elements of analytical geometry.Meets MST requirement

 

MA419W CALCULUS III
Grade:12- 1 semester- 1/2 credit- Weighted Grade
Prequisite: Calculus II
Students will study vector-valued functions of several variables, multiple integration and is an introduction to vector analysis. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

MA420 DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
Grade:12- 1 semester- 1/2 credit- Weighted Grade
Students will study ordinary differential equations with applications including LaPlace transformations with numerical methods. This course will support the State Standards of Mathematics. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

MA900 MATH STANDARDS
Grades: 11, 12- 1 Semester -1/2 Elective Credit
Students will continue to study the Arizona State Math Standards. This course is intended for those students who have not met the standards for the math portion of the AIMS test. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.

 

M123 AIMES
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12- 1 Year -1 Elective Credit
This course will prepare under-represented populations in math and science. AIMES will provide support and enrichment for students who are planning to pursue a college degree in math or science related areas. Meets 1/2 MST requirement.
