Mission Statement:
The mission of the Business Department is to prepare
students for business occupations, post-secondary education and consumer
responsibilities in a
global environment, using current business practices and advanced technology.
Many of the courses offered meet the graduation requirements not only for
Computer Proficiency, but also Economics credit and the Math-Science-Technology
Credit (MST).

BU121 BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY- ELL
Grades: 9, 10, 11,12 (ELL only) 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: none
This course will meet computer proficiency requirement upon completion of entire year.
Meets MST requirement
This course is designed for ELL students as an entry point and a foundation for current compute applications. Students will learn and apply keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, integration, communications and systems concepts.
BU122 BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: none
This course will meet computer proficiency requirement upon completion of entire year.
Meets MST requirement
Students will learn and apply necessary skills to survive in the real world of high school, college, and the work place. Organizational skills, proper keyboarding techniques, basic document formatting, completing a job application and writing a resume will be covered. Students will be introduced to basic compute technology and applications.
BU124 ACCELERATED BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 1 semester 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Recommended keyboarding speed of 25 wpm
This course will meet computer proficiency requirement.

Students will learn to use computer applications and technologies to organize information, initiate communication, solve problems and make decisions.
BU130 FINANCIAL SERVICES I

This course will prepare students with skills and knowledge for employment in business and personal finance. The course will include financial investment and planning, insurance, banking, and related services.
BU135 ACCOUNTING 1

This course is an introduction to accounting with emphasis on fundamental accounting principles and procedures as they apply to business. BU136 ACCOUNTING II

Prerequisite: Accounting 1

This course develops principles as they apply to partnership and corporate accounting. Topics include journals, ledgers, financial statements, accounts receivable and payable, and payroll systems.
BU140 MARKETING EDUCATION
Grades: 10, 11, 12 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: none
This course will meet District graduation requirements for Economics and computer proficiency upon completion of the entire year or may meet MST requirement.
Students will be prepared for employment in a wide range of marketing careers and will apply concepts of the free enterprise system. Students will learn the principles of marketing economics, marketing math, communications, selling, advertising, promotion, and human relations. Students will apply marketing concepts using word processing spreadsheet, graphics, database, integration, and computer systems.
BU141 MARKETING LAB (Spirit Store)
Grades: 10, 11, 12 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: Completion or concurrent enrollment of Marketing Education, completed application and interview with Spirit Store supervisor required.
This course provides students with practical marketing experience in the operation of the Spirit Store. Topics include inventory, advertising, stocking, visual merchandising, pricing, cash handling, and management operation.
BU142 ADVANCED MARKETING
Grades: 11, 12 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: Marketing Education or teacher approval

This course will be an in depth view of marketing with an emphasis on E- Commerce, Entertainment Marketing, Media Marketing, Sports Marketing, Travel and Tourism Marketing, and the entrepreneurial opportunities within.
BU145 ENTREPRENEURSHIP (Business Economics)

Students in this course develop an understanding of the nature of a small business, determine potential as an entrepreneur, and develop a business plan. Junior Achievement Business Economics course materials are used. Free Enterprise and decision-making competencies are addressed.

Essential for achievement in college and business, this course provides students with opportunity to apply word processing, presentation concepts and skills, spreadsheet and graphing, experience using MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel. Students will be introduced to relational database concepts using MS Access and they will be introduced to web page design. Successful students may wish to pursue MOUS (Microsoft User Specialist) Certification
BU202 INTERNET/E-COMMERCE

This course will meet computer proficiency requirement. Meets ½ MST requirement
In this course students will utilize hands-on experience to explore the resources available on the Internet / World Wide Web. Internet communication tools and technology will be covered. An introduction to Electronic Commerce on the Internet will include e-commerce site marketing, advertising, and other current issues in e-commerce.
BU204 A+ CERTIFICATION AND MICROSOFT NETWORKING ESSENTIALS

This advanced applications course provides n in-depth study of computers to include the identification and knowledge of computer hardware, assembly and disassembly of personal computer (PC’s), installation and use of DOS commands, hands-on experience and skills developed by the students will help prepare them for the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) exams and A+ Certification exam.
BU206 MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Prerequisite: A+ Certification and Microsoft Networking Essentials

This advanced applications course provides knowledge and skills necessary to implement and utilize Microsoft NT Workstation and NT Server on a local area network operating system including skills to configure, optimize, and integrate networks. The knowledge and skills developed by the students will help prepare them for the MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer) exams.
BU399 BUSINESS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Grades: 10, 11, 12 1 Year 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Successful completion of a business or marketing course and instructor approval
This course may be repeated for credit but not for grade change
Students in this course will learn the leadership skills necessary for success in business. The class will utilize business education and future business leaders of America (FBLA) activities to develop group dynamics, speaking skills, parliamentary procedures, goal setting, and human relations skills. Computer will be used in this class to apply word processing, database, spreadsheet, graphics, integration, and communications skills. FBLA officers are encouraged to enroll in this course, but the class is not a prerequisite for students who are interested in holding an officer in FBLA.
BU400/401 BUSINESS INTERNSHIP/COE
Business Internship and COE are to be taken concurrently.

This course will meet District graduation requirement for Economics upon completion of the entire year
This course will help students learn and apply personal business skills necessary in the business workplace. One hour of daily classroom activates and a supervised work experience of a minimum of 15 hours per week, offer opportunities for students to learn high school elective credit while earning real wages in the working world. COE will provide experience in the occupations of business, administrative support, accounting and other business related occupations. Junior Achievement Applied Economics course materials are used. Participation in FBLA is required part of the class.
BU405/406 MARKETING INTERNSHIP/ CO-OP
Marketing Internship and CO-OP are to be taken concurrently.
Grade: 12 1 Year 3 Credits
Prerequisite: Application and teacher approval
Can be taken for duel credit
Students learn to apply marketing skills within their vocational program through one period of classroom instruction each day and at least 15 hours of work experience each week. It provides experience in selling, customer service, or advertising. |
